A New Position
January 2025 began the process of me being officially nominated for the Military Training Leader (MTL) position and starting the application process. I completed all the requirements by mid-February and received the official notification from the hiring agency that I had been selected. In early March I received notification of my next assignment ( Southern East Coast!) and that I would be attending the MTL Course for the majority of April.
I had a choice to accept/not accept the position and my natural propensity was to stay in my comfort zone ( remain in Northern California). I thought about it for a few days and decided to let God direct me- without the input of others- because, honestly, I was a bit terrified. At church that weekend, I learned about trusting God fully when I do not understand and letting Him confirm what He had for me. We also sang two songs that mean a lot to me and that we hadn’t had on the schedule to sing for months. I decided to ask God to give me the strength to take the assignment and go through the training.
The first week of the MTL course focused on drill- something I had not practiced in about 9 years! I went into the week being convinced I wouldn’t be able to pass the evaluations, but God got me through. I concluded at the end of that week that God definitely wanted me there, because I did not pass everything that week on my own!
The rest of the month went by seemingly slow and fast at the same time. I shared a few meals with my classmates, visited New Orleans, did some apartment tours near my new assignment, and visited a new church for Easter. For the course, I facilitated two 25-30 minute guided discussions, led a physical training exercise, conducted a room inspection, and participated in a mock counseling session amidst other requirements. At the end of graduation day, I couldn’t help but reflect on how good God had been to me!
